What Investing Podcasts Do EMBAs Listen To?

I recently asked “Seminar for Value Investing” recent alumni about their favorite investing podcasts. The following list is the summary of the ones which were highly recommended:

Value Investing with Legends

value investing with legendsThis is our own school’s podcast series about Value Investing: Faculty member Tano Santos and Adjunct Professor Michael Mauboussin talk to seasoned value investors about their life, their views on the market and investing tips and book recommendations.

Here’s their mission: “Our mission today is to promote the study and practice of Graham & Dodd’s original investing principles and to improve investing with world-class education, research, and practitioner-academic dialogue. In this podcast you will hear from some of the world’s greatest investors, their views on the investment management industry, how they developed their investment process and how they see the field changing over time.”

The series doesn’t run all year round and there are only few episodes being released each year: they are really good though. In terms of length, each episode ranges from 30 min to an hour.

Capital Allocators

capital allocatorsThis is another really good one and it’s focused on longer and more in-depth conversations with veterans of asset management industry:

Allocator and asset management expert, Ted Seides, conducts in-depth interviews with leaders in the institutional investing industry. Guests include Chief Investment Officers from leading allocators, asset managers, strategists, thought leaders, and many more. Their mission is to learn, share, and help implement the process of premier investors.

What I like about this series is the diversity of the guests that come on the show, the in-depth yet friendly conversations and the fact that Ted generally releases an episode a week so there’s a lot to choose from.

Invest Like the Best with Patrick O’Shaughnessy

Invest Like the Best with Patrick O'ShaughnessyThis one comes highly recommended but I haven’t listed to it myself: This is again centered around conversations with the best investors and business leaders in the world.

The host explores their ideas, methods, and stories to help you better invest your time and money. Their pitch is: “Hear stock market and boardroom insights you can’t find anywhere else. If you’re a professional investor, CEO, entrepreneur, or business strategist, this is for you.”

acquired podcastEvery company has a story. Hosts Ben Gilbert and David Rosenthal take you through a journey where you can learn about the playbooks that built the world’s greatest companies — and how you can apply them as a founder, operator, or investor.

Bloomberg Surveillance

Bloomberg SurveillanceTom Keene, Jon Ferro, Lisa Abramowicz, and Paul Sweeney have the economy and the markets “under surveillance” as they cover the latest in finance, economics and investment, and talk with the leading voices shaping the conversation around world markets.

This one is different from the podcasts mentioned above in the sense that it’s more about current events.

NPR Marketplace Podcast

npr marketplace podcastEvery weekday, host Kai Ryssdal helps you make sense of the day’s business and economic news — no econ degree or finance background required. “Marketplace” takes you beyond the numbers, bringing you context. Our team of reporters all over the world speak with CEOs, policymakers and regular people just trying to get by.

This is a bit more generic and is developed for mass audience: It’s less about investing but like Bloomberg Surveillance, it covers the current events.
